About Shanice Solan
Author • Registered Practical Nurse • Singer/Songwriter
Shanice Solan is a Registered Practical Nurse, Personal Support Worker, poet, singer/songwriter, and the author of the children's book series Branches of the Vine. Born and raised in Mitchell Town, Clarendon, Jamaica, she fondly remembers spending Christmas and summer holidays with her sister Rasheda at the Bustamante Hospital for Children in Kingston, where their aunt Lorna worked as a Registered Nurse. It was during those visits that her deep love for babies and children began to blossom.
With a heart for service, Shanice previously ran a nonprofit organization that helped pay off outstanding school balances for students in need. She also partnered with the Women's Centre of Jamaica, sending barrels filled with clothing and baby essentials to support teen moms.
Now based in Ontario, Canada, she has over three years of experience as a pediatric nurse in the community, working closely with children with physical disabilities and complex medical needs. Through her writing, she brings characters to life in ways that are relatable to children with special needs — and to those who know and love them.
In addition to Branches of the Vine, Shanice is the author of Growing Up Jamaican: Current Gone Again — a heartwarming story inspired by her own childhood that celebrates culture, humor, and the everyday magic of island life.
Under her stage name Sol's Jurny, she shares her music across genres including R&B, dancehall/reggae, and gospel. Her songs are available on Spotify and all major streaming platforms. Her latest single, Do It Well, releases July 16th, capturing her signature message of resilience and determination.
Known for her warmth, spontaneous songs, voice-over talents, and infectious laugh, Shanice's greatest wish is to bring joy and belonging to every child she meets — even the child in you.
